From humble beginnings as the Rosendal bottle store, to a haven for 2 elderly artists from Bloemfontein for more than a decade, Die Boekhuis (like many timeless legends) is now facing its 3rd reincarnation… This time round as an enchanting 3-bedroom weekend home, with a private library, in the centre of town.
Downstairs there are two bedrooms (1 double bed and 2 single beds), with a shared bathroom. The spacious living room has been exclusively decorated with antique wooden furniture, most pieces dating back to the 1920’s/30’s… Each piece has been in the family for nearly a century, accompanied by interesting background stories and anecdotes.
The heart of the kitchen/dining area beats warmly in the shape of a 6-seater table, where many early morning coffees and late evening dinners will be remembered long after the Rosendal dust has been washed out of your clothes. The dining area boasts a vinyl player, so guests are encouraged to dust off those old LP’s and bring them along for a glorious trip down memory lane.
The main suite is upstairs, with a private bathroom and an open plan mini-lounge. Stepping outside onto the balcony, you are rewarded with views of the sprawling landscape and 4 seasons of breath-taking sunsets, setting the sky ablaze early evening.
The private library is housed in a studio room attached to the house and has been the inspiration behind “Die Boekhuis”… But instead of trying to paint the whole picture in writing, let us allow you a chance to book a stay and experience that legendary Rosendal magic first-hand.”
