Stallery
It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Stallery due to the passing of Wim Rautenbach. Contact details will be available in due course for collectors wishing to obtain some of his work.
Stallery served as the gallery and workshop of Wim Rautenbach, renowned local artist known for his connection to nature and the surrounding landscapes. Founded upon a romantic inspiration, the gallery symbolised the enduring love affair between Rautenbach and the unspoiled beauty of Rosendal. Transfixed by the town’s allure, he relocated from the bustling streets of Gauteng to establish a new chapter of life and artistic expression in this tranquil setting.

Grietjie Lee
Grietjie is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with a combination of beeswax and tree gum to create bas relief sculptures. Targeted animals, so-called vermin, such as the Black Backed Jackal, are a porthole for exploring the conflict at the confluence of wild and contained. Her abstract watercolour markings are inspired by the indigenous Rat’s Tail grasses (Sporobolus Africanus).

Wessel van Huyssteen
Wessel is a multimedia artist who creates intricate and detailed watercolour drawings to portray his interest in the landscape and the concept of space, place and non-place and how to engage these phenomena in the age of the Anthropocene. The textile works consist of densely sewn machine stitching onto layers of Viscose, Rayon and Nylon. The layers are cut and re-sewn to excavate and construct disrupted geographies.

Michèle Ngrini
One of the first professional artists to make Rosendal her home, Michèle is a colourist who captures a personal response to what she sees. Her approach is based on visual sensations and the play between line, colour and structure, with mark-making being the most fundamental element in her work. Michèle aims not to copy nature, but to capture the essence of things.

Willem Pretorius
Willem finds his inspiration in the smells and sights of the small towns of South Africa. His theme is mainly concerned with the “platteland” and its changing landscapes. It can be seen as a type of visual diary where he documents a specific time and place and in doing so, remembering. It also reminds us of our own transcience and mortality. Everything is temporary. He works in oil and his style can best be described as observational realism with a strong South African vernacular.

Wim Rautenbach
Wim Rautenbach’s absence leaves a profound void in Rosendal, and he will be deeply missed. Rest in peace Wim.
Spontaneous freedom and honesty are some of the feelings derived from Rautenbach’s oil paintings. Light and form plays an important part in Rautenbach’s creative process. The work is not static and totally realistic, movement, light and atmosphere add to the viewing experience.
Linda Pretorius
Linda’s works are tenderly-observed and evoke the often-unacknowledged tension that comes with family life. Like her family’s Instagram handle ‘Skoppelmaai’ (the Afrikaans word for ‘swing’), her works oscillate between the domestic contrasts of stillness and chaos, beauty and the grotesque and the search for stability amongst them. Linda completes each painting in one sitting at the family dining table.

Marna van den Berg
Growth is a central theme in my life and I believe that growth also occurs when people share their experiences – art is a universal medium to do this. I derive joy from the everyday and therefore I especially enjoy painting flowers.
I have lived in Rosendal since January 2023 and derive joy from the natural beauty, unforgettable sunsets and tranquility.
